General Notes:
Isaac served in the War of 1812, was only 12 years old and the only weapon her carried was a big knife made in France about 1780. This knife also went through the Civil War. He had remained in North Carolina when other members of the Brown family had migrated to Ohio. In 1834 he joined the family in Henry County, Indiana. Isaac had married Rebecca Lakey in North Carolina and had become the father of five children ---Marian Mahala, Moses Elliott, Hester Delaney, Tennessee and William Alexander. Two more daughters, Mary and Sarah, were born to them while they were living in Henry County. They moved on to Daviess County Missouri in 1839 with the rest of the family. In the Civil War he took "Old Charlie," his favorite horse, with him. The horse went through the Civil War unharmed. Isaac took good care of him and Old Charlie died and was buried on Sappa Creek in Decatur County, Kansas, at the age of 31 years. Isaac's occupation was stone mason, farmer, hunter and a great knife man. His hobby was to fight and have fine horses. He was a short, heavy set, light complected and very high tempered man. Isaac moved his family to Bourbon County Kansas in 1865 where his wife Rebecca died. He then moved back to Harrison County Missouri in 1871 and then later to Nuckells County Nebraska. In the spring of 1879 he moved to Decatur County Kansas and bought land near Lyle on Sappa Creek, where he married Eliza Rosencrantz Brown and lived there until after her death. He sold his farm to W. H. Huff and made his home with them until his death caused by heart trouble. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Isaac Brown and Rebecca B Lackey had 9 children can be found on Roots Web.
