bullet  General Notes:

This Is a fun article that appeared in the newspaper about 1896. This was sent to me by someone who has a lot of newspaper clippings. The article is about Mary Tilton who is Mary Ketcham, daughter of Lewis Ketcham and Phoebe Johnson. She was the wife of Joseph Tilton. They lived in Morris Township. They were my great, great grandparents.
The old Ketcham home, near Beulah Baptist church, of Morris township, was the scene of a very pleasant surprise party and family reunion last Saturday, October 17. Mrs Mary Tilton, for whom the surprise was arranged by her children, with a son and daughter now live in the old home in which she was born 68 years ago, and which has alway's been her home. So carefully and quietly had all plan been laid that mother Tilton did not suspect anything until the relatives and friends began to arrive. Of her children, Mrs John Bebout, of Burnsville, Mrs. Julia Sanders and husband, S.B. Tilton and wife of Washington, Mrs. Hannah Russel and husband of Ninevah and C.L. and and Nannie Tilton-who live with their mother, were present; too. Mrs Jane Scott of Rutan, because of the illness of her daughter, and Mrs. Marie Harsha of Washington, because of her own ill health, were absent and sadly missed. Seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren and other friends swelled the total number to 26. After a bounteous dinner, of which all partook heartily, a beautiful rocking chair from her children and many other useful presents from the assembled friends were presented by the Rev. Mr Henry. All then grouped themselves in the yard and were photographed by S.B. Tilton. It was altogether a very pleasant occasion and will not soon be fogotten by those present. May our patient, faithful Chirstian others like Mother Tilton have more such surprises. Wouldn't it be great if someone out there has a picture, (Pat Collins IIikecows2002 at aol.com e-mail 2 Oct 2002)
