This book is written as a historical fiction so that their children are scattered throughout and hard to locate. They had at least Joseph (1764), Thomas (b. 1768), Jackson (b. 1770), Polly (1771), Sally (1773) and Susannah (1772). If she really was only 9 when they married, she would have been 14 when the first child was born. According to the book, her mother had died and her father was very happy that John married her.
