JOSEPHUS GEORGE TILTON

Josephus George Tilton, 70, who has operated a grocery store near his home at 402 Beauregard St., for the past 14 years, died early Saturday morning following an illness of 18 months.
Mt. Tilton was connected with the state road commission and the state department of agriculture before entering the grocery business.
He was a graduate of Kenyon college and Oberlin Business college, Ohio. He was a member of the Christ Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Veva M. Tilton; a daughter, Mrs. Hubert E. Miller of Charleston; three sons, Virgil V. Tilton of South Charleston, Lt. Charles W. Tilton with the army air corps in England and PO-3/c Curtis H. Tilton stationed with the navy at Camp Perry, Va.; and five grandchildren.
The body is at the Simpson mortuary where it will remain for services Monday at 3 p.m. Dr. Joseph Clare Hoffman of the Christ Methodist church will officiate, followed by interment in the family lot of Sunset Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Allen Oakes, J. B. Murray, D. D. Eckleberry, J. R. Baber, L. W. Early and G. B. Nicholson.
