Charles Tilton a resident of Keyport, was the eldest son of Horatio and Mary (Scott) Tilton. He was an engineer on the Cornell line of steam boats for many years, and was for a number of years engineer on the S.S. Wyckoff, a freight boat plying from Matawan and Keyport to New York. It was while on duty on this boat that he was stricken with Apoplexy and died. he left surviving, his wife, Harriet Whorley Tilton and five children.
