General Notes:
1678. Thomas Tilton was witness to a deed in Gravesend, L. I.
In direct descent from this Thomas Tilton, 7, who removed to Delaware, was James Tilton, a reputed son, but vindoubtedly he was a grandson insteaci, as records on file at Washington, in the Pension Department, state that he was about sixty-nine or seventy years of age, in 18 13, and died May 14, 1822. This would make him to have been born about 1743 or 1744, and his alleged father, Thomas, would have been about ninety-five years of age at his birth, which demonstrates that he was a grandson rather than a son of the said Thomas.
It is further shown by the records of the War Department, at Washington, that James Tilton, surgeon. Colonel John Haslett's Delaware Regiment, Revolutionary War, was commissioned, Jan. 13, 1776, and was honorably discharged at the expiration of one year; that he was appointed physician and surgeon-general.
