Charles V Tilton 1864 November 19 1957 Fairmount (CNS) - Charles V Tilton 93 retired Fairmount Merchant died at 12:50 a.m. Tuesday Nov 19 1957 in Lake View Hospital, where ha had been a patient since April 1964.
He was born Dec 8 1863 in Catlin, the son of George Wilson Tilton and Lizzie Albright Wilson. When he was 20, his father sent him to Fairmount to manage a general store, which he had purchased. He operated that store continuously until his retirement in 1954, using the name of G. Wilse Tilton and son.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs Elsie V McGregor and Mrs Bertie V Catlett, both now residing at the Wolford Hotel; four children Claude E Tilton of Danville, Mrs E. F. Nina V Reese of Danville, Mrs E.E. Julia E Cast of Danville, and Mrs David D Edith R Aiken of Des Moines Iowa.
His wife Jeanette L Reese Tilton died in 1928 and a son Walter J Tilton in 1918. there are four grandchildren and five great grandchildren surviving.
The Baptist Church in Fairmount occupied a large place in Mr Tilton's life. He served as chairman of the building committee when the present building was erected. He also served the Church as a Deacon, trustee,treasurer, Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher.
Funeral service will be at 2- p.m. Thursday in the Fairmount Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, of which he was the trustee for many wears. Friends may call Wednesday at the Carrington Funeral Home in Fairmount. The Family requests no Flowers.

Charles married Jeanette Lewis Reese in 1885 in Illinois. (Jeanette Lewis Reese was born on 7 Sep 1865 in Illinois and died in 1928 in Fairmont Vermillion Illinois.)
