Longtime Dedham resident homemaker Boston nativeBREWSTER -- Gertrude E. (Richmond) Tilton, 91, a resident of Brewster and formerly of Dedham, died Sunday at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brewster.

She was the wife of the late Joseph H. Tilton Sr.

Born, raised and educated in Boston, she married and became a homemaker.

Mrs. Tilton lived in Dedham for most of her life before moving to Westwood and then to Brewster five years ago.

Surviving are a son, Joseph H. Tilton Jr. of North Eastham two daughters, Joan M. Kelly of Bourne, formerly of Westwood, and Catherine Thompson of Pembroke a brother, Lawrence Richmond of Dedham six grandchildren seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow in St. Pius X Catholic Church, Station Avenue, South Yarmouth.

Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 p.m. today at Doane, Beal and Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis.

Harold T. Mahler, 91 Telephone company testman played on Cape baseball teamPLYMOUTH - Harold T. Mahler, 91, a resident of Plymouth who leaves family on Cape Cod, died yesterday.

He was the husband of the late Alice E. (Hall) Mahler.

Born and educated in Kingston, Mr. Mahler moved to Braintree, Mashfield and then to Plymouth.

He worked as a testman for New England Telephone for 35 years, retiring in 1974.

Mr. Mahler played on a Cape Cod League semi-professional baseball team. His positions were outfield and second base and he was known as "Shrimp Mahler."

He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.

Surviving are two sons, Ted Mahler of Dennis and Richard Mahler of East Falmouth eight grandchildren eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was also the father of the late James Mahler.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 388 Court St., Plymouth.

Burial will be in Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Richard Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St., North Plymouth.

Harriet Martin, 84 Nurse operated guest house taxi dispatcher WWII veteranPROVINCETQWN - Harriet Martin, 84, a resident of Provincetown, died Saturday at Cape End Manor.

She was the wife of Joseph Martin, who died in 1999, since 1950.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Martin was a graduate of Carney Hospital School of Nursing.

She worked as a registered nurse at Carney Hospital, Boston and at Lynn Hospital, Lynn.

In 1949, she moved to Provincetown to care for her dying sister. There she met her future husband. They married in 1950 and remained in Provincetown.

Mrs. Martin worked with her husband for more than 40 years dispatching and driving taxi for his business, Martin's Taxi. She also owned and operated a guesthouse for almost 45 years, developing a following of visitors who returned year after year.

During World War II, Mrs. Martin served as a registered nurse in the Army Air Corps, attaining the rank of sergeant. A disabled veteran, she was a member of the Morris Light Post, American Legion.

Mrs. Martin was an avid reader and never was without a book. She also cherished the time spent with her grandson.

Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Claudia Martin of Hanover and a grandson.

A funeral will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday from the McHoul Funeral Home, Howland Street and Harry Kemp Way, Provincetown, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter the Apostle Church, Provincetown.

Burial will follow in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Visiting hours are 4 to 6 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.

John A. 'Bo' Olson Jr. Builder maintenance worker custodian WWII Army veteranEASTON - John A. "Bo" Olson Jr., a lifelong resident of Easton who leaves a brother in Yarmouthport, died Sunday at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton after a period of failing health.

Born in Easton, Mr. Olson attended Easton schools and entered the Army during World War II.

After the war, he was a self-employed builder in Easton until going to work for the Easton School Department as a custodian. He later worked in the School Maintenance Department until his retirement.

Surviving are a sister, Evelyn Carlson of Easton a brother, Frederick Olson of Yarmouthport and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the George L. Copeland and Son Funeral Home, 38 Center St., Easton.

Burial will be in South Easton Cemetery, Easton.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Thomas M. Philpott, 83 Decorated WWII veteran manufacturer's representativeNORTH CHATHAM - Thomas M. Philpott, 83, a resident of North Chatham, died Sunday at his home after a long illness.

He was the husband of Shirley L. (Hager) Philpott since 1945.

Born in Everett and raised and educated in New Rochelle, N.Y., Mr. Philpott earned a bachelor of business administration degree from Notre Dame University in 1940. After graduation he joined the Marine Corps.

An officer candidate, Mr. Philpott completed study at Quantico and began his service in the Pacific theater as a first lieutenant. He received a Presidential Citation for intelligence work in the Battle of Tulagi in the British Solomon Islands, and served throughout the Battles of Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. He held the rank of major and was stationed in occupied Japan from VJ Day until February 1946.

Mr. Philpott returned to live in the greater New York area after the war. Settling in Woodcliff Lake, N.J., he enjoyed a long career as a self-employed manufacturer's representative of several lines of products for the automotive industry. He retired in 1973 and for five years split his time between the Isle of Capri off Italy, Florida and his longtime summer home in North Chatham. Thereafter, he lived in North Chatham year-round.

Mr. Philpott was a former president of the Automotive Boosters Association in New York City, former president of the Woodcliff Republican Club, former chairman of the Hospital Building Fund drive in Woodcliff, former president of the Woodcliff Babe Ruth and Little Leagues and a founder of the Woodcliff Girl's Softball League.

Surviving besides his wife are a son, Thomas M. Philpott Jr. of South Dennis a daughter, Ann L. Fitzpatrick of Warwick, N.Y. a grandson and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Holy Redeemer Church, Highland Avenue, Chatham.

Burial will be private.

Alice P. Razinha, 89 East Falmouth Post Office clerk co-founded Cribbage GroupHATCHVILLE - Alice (Perry) Razinha, 89, a resident of Hatchville, died Sunday at the JML Care Center in Falmouth

She was the wife of James M. Razinha, who died in 1996, for 63 years.

Born in Teaticket, Mrs. Razinha graduated from Lawrence High School in 1931.

She moved to Hatchville in 1942.

Mrs. Razinha was a clerk for the East Falmouth Post Office for more than 25 years.

She and her husband founded the Cribbage Group in the John DeMello Falmouth Senior Center.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church. Mrs. Razinha was an accomplished seamstress.

Surviving are a daughter, Carol J. Baker of Falmouth a son, James L. Razinha of Hatchville two brothers, Edward G. Perr Ralph J. Perry, both of Teaticket a sister Marie Cory of Teaticket five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Patrick's Church, Main Street, Falmouth.

Burial will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Route 28, East Falmouth.

Visiting hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St., Falmouth.

Karen Blank, 67 Hospital dietary dept. worker supporter of women's rightsSOUTH YARMOUTH - Karen (Foster) Blank, also known as Karen Tollefson, 67, a resident of South Yarmouth and formerly of Verona, N.J., died Saturday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

She was the wife of Peter H. Blank.

Born in Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Blank was raised in Evanston, Ill.

She was a graduate of Evanston Township High School and attended Northwestern University.

Mrs. Blank worked in the dietary department of Mountainside Hospital and at the Mademoiselle Shop in Montclair, N.J.

As a strong supporter of women's rights, she was a participant in the Equal Rights Amendment March in Washington, D.C.

Surviving besides her husband are two sons, Peter H. Blank Jr. of Tokyo, Japan, and Andrew F. Blank of Hyannis a daughter, Ellen B. Culp of Union, N.J. three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Church of the Holy Spirit, 204 Monument Road, Orleans.

Edith T. Kenyon, 83 Communicant of St. Mary's Church leaves family on Cape NEW BEDFORD - Edith T. (Powers) Kenyon, 83, who leaves a daughter in Bourne, died Saturday at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Harry Kenyon for 60 years.

A lifelong resident of New Bedford, Mrs. Kenyon graduated from New Bedford High School in 1936.

A communicant of St. Mary's Church, she was also a member of the Royal Travelers of New Bedford.

In recent years, the grandmother most enjoyed the time she spent with her family.

Surviving besides her husband are three sons, Paul Kenyon of Honolulu, Hawaii, David Kenyon of Nashua, N.H., and Stephen Kenyon of Acushnet one daughter, Nancy K. Donovan of Pocasset one sister, Kathryn McMahon of Connecticut and five grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday from the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford, followed at 11 a.m. by a funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in New Bedford. Burial will follow at Acushnet Cemetery in Acushnet.

Visiting hours are '97 to 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home.

Beverley S. Stecher, 73 Nurse hospice volunteer leaves family in Buzzards BayNEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. - Beverley S. Stecher, 73, a resident of New Smyrna Beach and former Cape resident, died Sunday at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, while visiting family.

She was the wife of Dr. William N. Stecher.

Born in Quincy, Mass., Mrs. Stecher lived in New Smyrna Beach since 1996, moving from Cape Cod. She attended Fitchburg State College in Fitchburg, Mass., and was a 1952 graduate of Bryn Mawr Hospital School of Nursing, Bryn Mawr, Pa. She was formerly a registered nurse.

Mrs. Stecher was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Episcopal Church, New Smyrna Beach and was a volunteer for Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Counties in Florida.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, William N. Stecher Jr. of Laurens, S.C. three daughters, Gretchen Stecher of Buzzards Bay, Heidi Shultz of Shirley, Mass., and Kristen Quarella of Leominster, Mass. two sisters, Shirley Simpson of Edgewater and Nancy Tobiessen, Scotia, N.Y. 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at '97 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Episcopal Church-on-the-Canal, Buzzards Bay, Mass.
