AGE: 90 • Brick

Leroy Downs Tilton, 90, of Brick, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, March 4, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Roy was born in Brick where he met and married Jean, his devoted wife of sixty years. He built a house in Kingfisher Cove near his childhood home and they raised their five children together. Roy was a proud member of Osbornville Baptist Church since 1934. After 35 years of working as a wood pattern maker, he retired as a general foreman from Fort Monmouth. He was a Charter member of the American Legion Post 348 and was a WWII U.S. Navy Veteran. He was also a Charter member and Scoutmaster of Osbornville Boy Scout Troop 108. He was an avid outdoorsman and instant friend to everyone he met.

Roy was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jean; and his daughter Jan Tilton. He is survived by his loving sister, Julia Ann Kennett; and his devoted children, daughter Jeri Jaymes of Toms River; son Jeffrey Tilton of Brick; daughter Jill Tilton of Brick; and daughter Joan Dennis and her husband Thomas Dennis of Brick. He will be missed by his five grandchildren and his great-grandson.

There will be no calling hours. A Funeral Service will be offered at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 7, at the Osbornville Baptist Church, 366 Drum Point Road, Brick. Interment will follow at the Osbornville Protestant Cemetery, Mantoloking Road, Brick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Osbornville Baptist Church. Weatherhead Young Funeral Home, Brick, is in charge of the arrangements.
