Leona Irene Cheek, age 76, of Mountain Home , Arkansas went to be with the Lord Saturday, November 22, 2014, in Mountain Home.
She was born December 8, 1937, in Monkey Run, Arkansas to Herbert and Esta Mae (Raymond) Messick.
She was a lifelong resident of the Twin Lakes area.
She married Bobby "Red" Cheek June 28, 1960, at the Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church in Monkey Run.
She was the last survivor of the former Four Sister's Store in Monkey Run. She was a tireless, lifelong worker for the Lord as a member of the Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church as a song leader, preschool Sunday School teacher and VBS worker for forty plus years. She was a homemaker, substitute teacher for Cotter Schools and bookkeeper for her family's business, Messick and Cheek Electric. She also served as Justice of the Peace for the Monkey Run area and married several people in that capacity in the 1960's and 1970's. As a young adult, Leona pursued a professional singing career which included stints on the Louisiana Hayride with such stars as Johnny Cash and Conway Twitty.
Mrs. Cheek is survived by her husband: Bob Cheek of Mountain Home, a son: Airl Cheek and wife Elizabeth of Flippin, a daughter: Mariona Porter and husband Danny of Gassville, and four grandchildren: Jesse Cheek and wife Carla of Fayetteville and Kate, Brooks and Satch Cheek all of Flippin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Pilgrim's Rest Baptist Church in Monkey Run. A visitation will be Tuesday from noon until 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 \endash 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Monkey Run.
