Life Legacy

Kittery \endash John E. Tilton, 55, of Kittery passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on December 10, 1961 in Kittery Maine at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Hospital, a son of Bert Tilton and the late Lauretta (Bishop) Tilton. He was a graduate of Traip Academy, Class of 1980.

John was formerly employed in Shop 38 as a Marine Mechanic at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He was an auto mechanic his entire life and had built many things over the years; he had worked on everything that had a motor in it, except the Space Shuttle and a train. At the time of his passing, John and his son, Justin, were building two motorcycles, one for himself and one for Justin.

He was predeceased by his mother, Lauretta (Bishop) Tilton.

Beside his father, Bert Tilton of Milton, NH, survivors include his wife Teresa Stephan of Kittery; his son, Justin Tilton of Kittery; brother, Butch Tilton of Warner Robins, GA; sisters, Cindy Tilton of Jacksonville, FL, Sue Miller of California, and Laura Tilton-Chase of Milton, NH; many nieces and nephews.

Services: A time of visitation will be held from 4-5PM with a memorial service immediately following at 5PM on Friday, January 13, 2017 at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME. The family has requested, all who attend be dressed in casual attire...It is how John would like it.
