Surnames: Tilton, Chambers, King, Hall, Hunter, Kernaghan, Wood, StJohn This is the Will of Joseph Tilton, Letters of Citation, Letter of Objection, Record of Probate and Letter Testamentary associated with the Will as copied by Vangy Tilton Maddox, September 1999 from the originals in the Surrogate Court of Orange County, NY It is interesting to note the probate of the will and then the will of Catherine Tilton did not turn over the remaining estate of Joseph to his son William V. Tilton.
WILL In the Name of God, Amen.
I, Joseph Tilton, being of sound mind and memory, and considering the frail and transitory life, do therefore make, ordain and publish and declare this to be my last WILL and TESTAMENT: That is to say, First, after all my lawful debts are paid and discharged, I give and bequeath to my wife, Catherine Tilton, the use of all my real and personal estate during her life and at her death, the said real and personal estate I give and bequeath to my son, William V. Tilton. 2nd, My wife Catherine Tilton, shall pay to Mary Jane Chambers One Hundred Dollars, to Matilda King One Hundred Dollars, to Loretta King Two Hundred Dollars, and to Susan C. Hall Three Hundred Dollars, the said heirs to be paid in annual installments of Twenty-five Dollars to each until the said amounts shall be paid, the first instsallment to be paid one year after my death. If my wife, Catherine Tilton, should die before the said installments have been paid, my son William V. Tilton shall pay the remaining unpaid installments. Likewise, I make, constitute and appoint Clarence Ormsbee to be executor of this my Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me made. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal, the 24th day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and seventy-five.

The above written Instrument was subscribed by the said Joseph Tilton in our presence, and acknowledged by him to each of us: and he at the same time declared the above Instrument to be his last Will and Testament; and we, at his request, have signed our names as witnesses hereto, and written opposite our names, our respective places of residence.
