Ora Lester Tilton

  General Notes:

Note: Ora was born in the old sod shanty on his mother's homestead in Norton County, Kansas. Ora's boyhood days were spent with his Mother and among his older 1/2 brothers. Ora got a fair education and then got that feeling to see America. His mode of travel was to bum freight and passenger trains. He tried many different things for an occupation, but generally it consisted of cream and eggs and automobiles. Ora was a deserter during World War, but gave himself up a short time before the Armistice was signed and came out with an Honorable discharge. Ora made his home with George Huff and family most of the time from about 1906-1926, when he went South finally settling in Arkansas. In 1928 he was living on a truck farm near Mulberry, Arkansas. Ora had black hair, grey eyes, sandy whiskers, about 5 ft 8 1/2 inches tall and weighed about 165 pounds. He is very red faced and his nose sunburns very easy. He died in the hospital of a bad heart.

He was survived by his wife, Effie Mae Tilton; a son, Lyndon Tilton; a stepson, Jack Moulder; two daughters, Barbara Tilton and Dixie Sweetser; a sister, Stella Allen; and 8 grandchildren. Interment was at Prairie Grove Cemetery with arrangements by Luginbuel Funeral Home.
