Note - Forth child born out of ten, 8 boy's 2 girls Note - Was a Master Whaler Note - Had his Master's Licence Note - Held the rank of LT in the USNR for 4 years Note - His Teacher in school on the Vinyard was MR Thurston Tilton Note - His first attempt to go Whaling at the age of 14 was on the (Spartan) out of Newbedford, failed His dad caught him before they left. Note - His first trip whaling was as a stowaway on the (Union) out of Newbedford at the age of 14. Note - Captain George Fred Tilton was captain of seven different whaleships,gaining great fame for a remarkable 2000 mile treck across Alaska from Point Barrows in 1898 Saving the Lives of the Ocean Jennie a four masted schooner, the Jessie H Freeman, the Rosario, the Orca and the Belvedere that were all stranded In the Arctic Ocean off of Point Barrow.
