William Tilton was born 15 April 1796 in Indian Territory now Belmont Co Ohio. The oldest son of Richard Tilton and his 1st wife (we don't know her name). In 1804 the family moved to a farm in Lafayette Township, Coshocton, Ohio. He grew up on the farm where he attended a little country school in his early years. He married Nancy Hardesty 24 Nov 1815 @ the Coshocton County Court House. They continued living in the Lafayette Township on the farm where all their children were born. The children were, Richard, Mary, Laban Jasper, William Wesley, Elijah, Francis, Alexander, Benjamin Franklin, Elizabeth, Emily, Philma, Harriet, Edmund and Rachel Tilton. They attended church @ the Chalfant Church in Washington Township Ohio. Their 4 youngest children died in infancy and are buried @ the Chalfant Cemetery. About 1843 the moved Ogle Co Illinois. Where several of their family members had already moved. William purchased a small farm where they lived the rest of their life. He passed away the 13 of August 1832 and was buried in the Washington Grove Cemetery.
