Abraham Tilton was farming in Bradford and Orford, New Hampshire. In 1839 he moved his family to Whitesboro, Oneida Co., N.Y. Here he may have worked on the Erie Canal. He and Rebecca were members of the Whitesboro Baptist Church from 1839 to 1849. From Whitesboro N.Y. the family moved to Rochester N.Y., where Abraham was working as a boatman on the Erie Canal. The family was found here on the 1850 census. By 1859 Abraham and Rebecca moved to Nora, Jo Daviess Co., Illinois. Records were found for Abraham and Cyrus selling two teams of oxen, 10 March, 1859. He sold these two teams to James H. Rogers for $53.50. Abraham and Rebecca Tilton and two sons, Cyrus and William, were on the 1860 census, living in Nora. Abraham and Rebecca were living on land purchased by their son, Benjamin Tilton. They were still living in Nora when the 1870 census was taken. Some time between 1870 and 1880 Abraham Tilton died. Rebecca TILTON was still in Nora when the 1880 census was taken. She died 11 October, 1889. The death date for Abraham has not been found. Rebecca's death date was found amongst some Tilton family papers, but no place was mentioned. The last mention of Rebecca before her death, was in 1883, in a land transction between Rebecca and her son, Benjamin TILTON in Nora. Burial records have not been found for Abraham and Aline V Kelm, UNDER THE SPREADING TILTON TREE, . p 64-65. /
