  General Notes:

Mr. Edward Lee Tilton departed a very prosperous life Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002. He was born Nov. 27, 1940, to the late Mary Tilton and Robert Johnson in Isle of Wight County. He received Christ at an early age at Gravel Hill Baptist Church in Smithfield. His early education was in Isle of Wight Training School and the city schools of Baltimore. He moved to Newport News and attended Huntington High School, graduating in 1960.

He met and married Inez Davis in 1964, and from this union, two children were born, Michele R. and Stephen Tilton. He retired from the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), Langley Air Force Base, Hampton, after 33 years of service. Edward was loved by all whom he came in contact with. His kindness and gentleness touched the lives of a lot of young people in his neighborhood and workplace.

Edward leaves to share the memories of his rewarding life his wife, Inez Davis Tilton; one daughter, Michele R. Long, and her husband, Mike; one son, Stephen Tilton Sr., and his wife, D'Juana; two grandchildren, Monica Long and Stephen Tilton Jr. of Hampton; two brothers, Paul Tilton of Newport News and Ron Tilton of California; one cousin/sister, Maggie Grimes; and two aunts, Jackie Clarke of Newport News, and Rosa Blunt and her husband, Ashley, of Hampton. He also leaves six sisters-in-law, eight brothers-in-law, one special brother-in-law, Robert Davis; his sister-in-law/child, Helen Davis Williams; three stepsisters, Arlene Blacknall (John), Doris Brown and Claristine Lunsford; devoted friends and fishing buddies, Lou Hare and James Clarke; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Viewing will be 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. Family and friends will assemble at 11:45 a.m. at 715 Byrd St., Hampton.
